Consists of the volunteer enrollment cards for the Citizens Defense Corps and the Citizens Service Corps in Nashville, Tennessee. They were created by and organized under the Nashville Defense program. The cards contain only the name, address, and the volunteer skills of the individual. There are no supporting documents to explain the use of the cards. The Citizens Defense Corps focused on protection against enemy air attacks. The Citizens Service Corps focused on domestic services.

Tennessee began preparing for World War II when Governor Prentice Cooper appointed the State Advisory Committee on Preparedness, later named "the State Defense Council." Local defense councils such as the Nashville Defense Program were then organized under the guidance of this committee and the National U.S. Civil Defense Office.
